Black History Month Althea Gibson Black History Month 2017

Althea Gibson blazed a new trail in the sport of tennis, winning some of the sport’s biggest titles in the 1950s and becoming the game’s first black champion.
The white-dominated, white-managed sport was segregated in the U.S. in much the same way that the world around it was. She almost decided to quit sports because of segregation, hatred and the lack of opportunities for people of color, but she didn’t give up and eventually became the first black female champion.
Proof black people will never back down.
